Exhibition opening – The maps of Marco Polo

✍️ The comic novel “Marco Polo. The Silk Road” fantastic about everything that History and the Million don’t say: what does the seventeen-year-old boy Marco Polo feel in contact with the wide world? What do the spices of commercial cities in Asia smell like? How do travellers’ accents sound around the flickering fire in caravanserragli?

In the graphic novel, sequential narrative is interrupted several times by wide maps. Just as medieval world maps were not useful for orientation but were rather compounds of theology and philosophy, so were the maps of “Marco Polo. Silk Road” is sentimental landscapes, interior maps, crossroads of stories and legends, monsters and wonders, anguish and wonders. The wonders that a boy can dream and draw, found suddenly at the outskirts of the world.
